Digital Marketing Specialist Position Description

Overview
The Digital Marketing Specialist position is a full-time role, working with our Director of Client Engagement, Marketing Managers, Paid Media Manager, Production Managers, Writers, Designers, and Developers. As a key member of the online marketing team, the Digital Marketing Specialist will help tactically drive the digital marketing efforts for North Star Marketing and our clients. This position is responsible for marketing analytics, search engine optimization (SEO), social media, marketing automation, inbound marketing activities, and assisting with paid media (search and display) campaigns. In support of client engagements, this position will focus heavily on SEO, using analytics to improve traffic, engagement, and conversion funnels. This team member will support the online marketing team as a subject matter expert in digital strategies, both implementing and optimizing various digital campaigns for lead generation and customer conversion.

This position is best suited for a candidate that has mid to senior-level experience in search engine optimization, with a background in journalism, online marketing, public relations and/or mass communications. Candidates should possess a firm grasp of promotional writing; emphasis on writing for search engine optimization, online advertising, and social media is a must, as well as the ability to strategically and purposefully develop content toward a greater marketing goal. 

Technical aptitude with an understanding of technical SEO is a must. Technical SEO experience required includes governing site indexing, as well as a thorough understanding of on-page and off-page optimization. This includes on-page code, on-page content, and link building strategies. Strong ability to perform keyword research and to manipulate data in spreadsheet applications is a must, as well as experience using third-party SEO tools. Candidates should also possess a solid understanding of local SEO ranking factors. Excellent communication and research skills are essential to the success of this position. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Digital Strategy & Execution|
    Own inbound marketing best practices and standards at the firm, including reporting, measurement, and return on marketing investment (ROMI) for digital campaigns
  • Help Marketing Managers translate business goals into digital marketing objectives and create and communicate marketing targets
  • Partner with the Marketing Managers to develop specific digital strategies and identify requirements for all client deliverables
  • Manage the implementation and optimization of digital advertising campaigns (AdWords, Display, Social, Native, etc.) for clients
  • Conduct both on-page and off-page analysis of client campaigns and implement best SEO practices to improve account performance.
  • Conduct digital audits (competitor/content/SEO) and keyword research, communicating this analysis to internal teams and clients
  • Develop improved site navigation and conversion funnel strategies for client websites
  • Create low-fi wireframes that communicate strategic website improvements and recommendations 
  • Evaluate buyer personas and create customer segmentation groups for focused targeted marketing based on customer profiling
  • Compile and share competitive insights related to marketing strategies of client competitors

Analytics & Reporting

  • Consolidate key metrics, provide ongoing reporting and analytics to Marketing Managers and clients, and provide insights for program optimization
  • Continually monitor and recommend improvements for marketing content to support the agency and growth objectives of our clients
  • Analyze existing best practices in integrated media campaigns, as well as innovations made possible by emerging technologies
  • Benchmark digital activities against our clients’ competitors and peers in their respective industries
  • Use analytic tools to track, monitor, and optimize digital footprint and campaigns based on historical performance
  • Prepare and deliver both qualitative and quantitative analysis reports and dashboards that inform all audiences of our collective performance across all digital marketing efforts, highlighting the impact achieved for our clients

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field
  • 3 or more years of relevant business experience in a digital marketing or advertising agency environment.
  • Experience working across a number of industries strongly preferred
  • Experience implementing Digital Marketing strategies in B2B and B2C environments strongly preferred
  • Marketing automation solution experience
  • Experience creating and developing digital marketing best practices within an organization

Skill Requirements

Computer & Technical Skills

  • Proven competency with social media, digital advertising, email marketing strategy, and web analytics
  • Proven grasp of all paid search mediums including remarketing, display, and content, mobile and video
