Education Marketing Manager Position Description


North Star Marketing works extensively with schools across the country (private, independent, faith-based, and charter/public), helping them shape winning marketing and enrollment strategies. We develop comprehensive brand identity packages, websites, print collateral packets, online marketing campaigns, and traditional advertising programs for schools of all sizes.

The Education Marketing Manager consults with Marketing and Admissions Directors, Heads of School, and Advancement/Development Directors to shape marketing strategy. He/she then orchestrates the required ramp-up projects and online/traditional campaign implementation through a blend of hands-on engagement and team coordination.

This position is best suited for a candidate with advanced studies in marketing, public relations, mass communications, and/or online marketing. Experience in school marketing, admissions, and/or development is essential for this position.

The Education Marketing Manager (EMM) works with North Star’s clients, project managers, copywriters, designers, programmers, and marketing support team. The EMM works daily with a Project Manager to schedule deliverables for production team members.

The EMM will add and edit website content using content management systems such as WordPress, as well as manage client campaigns in inbound marketing, SEO, and PPC software platforms. The ability to perform keyword research in Google AdWords and manipulate data on spreadsheet applications is critical for this position. The EMM must have the ability to move across projects, quickly organize information, and deliver on deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Excellent oral communication, written communication, and online research skills are essential for success in this position. In addition to above average technical skills, the EMM must have strong account management skills, the ability to organize teams, steward projects, and meet client deadlines. This position requires a working knowledge of inbound marketing methodology, paid search(PPC), content marketing, search engine optimization(SEO), display advertising, and social media.

Education Marketing Manager candidates should be able to write effectively for an online audience (i.e. content developed for specific buyer personas). Sloppy writing will stop the interview process.


  • BS/BA required
  • 2 years digital or online advertising experience preferred

After working in admissions for two years with a private Christian school, I developed a passion for marketing the school and helping parents evaluate the benefits of a private school education. When I transitioned to my role at North Star Marketing as Education Marketing Manager, I was surprised at how both positions had a very similar mission and how seamlessly I could transition from one to the other.

Day-to-day activities include:

  • Communicating with clients and team members to align resources for multiple retainer clients
  • Organizing and running meetings and tracking the resulting decisions and details through delivery
  • Tracking projects from purchase order through invoicing
  • Gathering necessary assets to develop a campaign (photos, copy, digital assets, brochures, etc.)
  • Briefing the project manager and creative team members on client strategy and project engagements
  • Recommending marketing tactics to clients under management
  • Communicating timelines to clients, obtaining client feedback, working through edits/revisions, and obtaining project approvals
  • Confirming all billing information is recorded and associated with the appropriate projects
  • Leading strategy and planning sessions for client campaigns
  • Helping clients understand inbound marketing methodology and tactics, as well as traditional marketing initiatives
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities to provide additional value through add-on services
  • Developing, reviewing, and sending proposals for new opportunities
  • Contributing to the research, development and production of quality content for online and offline channels
  • Reviewing final work to make sure it’s in alignment with the client’s marketing strategy
  • Increasing awareness of client brands, products, and services through outreach and social media amplification
  • Optimizing campaigns for SEO using keyword research, then developing metrics to show ROI
  • Developing well-structured content for use in marketing automation
  • Monitoring the health of the client relationship through proactive communication and regular check-ins
